Characterization of Torsional Stiffness in Harmonic Drive
نویسندگان
چکیده
Primarily for aerospace applications, harmonic drives (HD’s) are high-ratio, compact torque transmission systems. This mechanical transmission employs a continuous deflection wave along a non-rigid gear, the socalled ‘flexspline’, to allow gradual engagement of gear teeth. A harmonic drive also contains a wave-generator (a ball-bearing assembly with a rigid elliptical inner-race) and a circular-spline (a rigid internally teeth ring with a slightly larger pitch diameter than that of the flexspline). When properly assembled, the wave-generator is nested inside the flexspline, causing the flexspline to adopt the elliptical profile of the wave-generator. Through this unconventional mechanism, gear ratios up to 500:1 can be achieved in a single transmission step.

Electric Motors and Drives in Torsional Vibration Analysis and Design
Two types of prime movers are continuously applied for rotating machinery: mechanical and electric drives. This tutorial focuses on electric drives, which are actually composed of separate components: electric motor, frequency converter (optional), and electric network including transformers. The main aim of this tutorial is to explain the phenomena of electric drives related to the torsional v...
متن کاملThe effect of discrete lateral and torsional bracings stiffness on the elastic lateral-torsional buckling of mono-symmetric I beam, under the concentrated moment
When the out-of-plane stiffness of a beam is remarkably lower than the in-plane stiffness, the lateral-torsional buckling occurs. In this study, the behavior of mono-symmetric I-beams with discrete torsional and lateral bracings under the concentrated moment is investigated using the finite element analyses. Then, based on the numerical analyses, equation for the stiffness requirement is propos...
متن کاملConcept design of Vehicle Structure for the purpose of computing torsional and bending stiffness
Automotive design engineers face the challenging problem of developing products in highly competitive markets. In this regard, using conceptual models in the first step of automotive development seems so necessary. In this paper, to make a body in white conceptual model, an engineering approach is developed for the replacement of beam-like structures, joints, and panels in a vehicle model. The ...
متن کاملShaft Misalignment and Vibration - A Model
Misalignment of coupled rotating machinery shafts is a frequently occurring problem which can have a substantial influence on equipment reliability. Experience has shown that diagnosis of misalignment through vibration analysis can be extremely difficult due in large part to the observed substantial variability in the character of machinery vibration even when apparently identical alignment sta...

The cooperative effort is described of equipment manufacturers, the process plant designer and the ultimate user to specify and design a compressor system that was driven by a 10,500 horsepower induction motor that was controlled by a variable frequency drive (VFD) system. A design methodology is presented which avoids the potential of VFD system harmonics from coinciding with system mechanical...
